The exhibition \u2018 Brodovich: from Dyagilev to Harper\u2019s Bazaar\u2019 was organized by Harper\u2019s Bazaar magazine and the Garage Centre for Contemporary Culture.
Alexey Brodovich (1898 — 1971) was a pioneer in graphic design, the man who created the prototype of today\u2019s glossy fashion magazine. During the early 1930s Brodovich began to revolutionize the world of periodicals, combining images with text in Harper\u2019s Bazaar columns. Brodovich became one of the founders of advertizing and fashion photography, teacher to photographers such as Irving Penn and Richard Avedon. The exhibition will present covers of Harper\u2019s Bazaar and examples of experiments with graphics, which Brodovich would perform on the magazine\u2019s pages; the series of photographs \u2018Ballet\u2019, which captured the touring Russian Ballet Monte-Carlo<\/nobr> in New York, as well as American ballet performances during the 1930s; portraits of Brodovich by Avedon, Cartier Bresson, Newman, as well as personal letters, photo and video documentation, lectures and interviews which reflected Brodovich\u2019s teaching. <\/p>
